  • HOPE eligbility requirements when entering an associates or bachelor degree program in a college or technical school:
    • For students entering college in Fall, 2007 or after:
      • A student earning a College Preparatory diploma must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or more in English, math, science, social studies, and foreign language courses.
      • A student earning a Technical/Career diploma must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or more in English, math, science, and social studies.

  • For students attending Georgia private colleges and universities, the HOPE scholarship will pay $3000 toward tuition for full time students and $1500 for half time students. No book allowance is provided.

What do parents and students have to do to apply for the HOPE scholarship?

In order to apply for the HOPE scholarship, parents and students have to complete one of two options. We strongly suggest parents and students do both. Students and parents should complete the Free Application for Student Federal Aid (FAFSA). Students should complete the E-HOPE application on line with the Georgia School Finance Commission or submit the paper version. For more information visit the Georgia School Finance Commission website.

  1. Students and parents should complete the FAFSA as soon as possible beginning in January of the students' senior year. The counseling department usually receives the paper version of the FAFSA in December. Students and parents may complete the paper version, or may complete the FAFSA online. Income tax information from the previous year is necessary in order to complete the FAFSA, though the tax forms do not have to be filed in order to submit the FAFSA.
  2. Students should complete the Georgia School Finance Commission's E-HOPE application during their senior year. Here are the steps to take [printer friendly instructions (New Window)]
    :
    • Go to www.gacollege411.org. If you haven't done so already, create a MY411 account and log on. (If you have established an account, simply log on.)
    • Click the Applications and Transcripts tab.
    • Under Applying for Financial Aid, click GSFAPPS.
    • Click Apply Now at the bottom of the page.
    • Follw the instructions to complete the HOPE application on line.

Remember, you must take one of the two actions described above. We strongly recommend that you do both. The E-HOPE application is quick and easy. The FAFSA makes it possible for you to apply for student loans and many other scholarships require that you complete FAFSA to receive funds.

What is the school's responsibility for students to receive the HOPE scholarship?

The school uploads transcripts to the Georgia School Finance Commission (GSFC.) The GSFC calculates the HOPE grade point average.
