| Valedictorian, Salutatorian, Honor Graduates
- The valedictorian must be an honor graduate and is the student in
a graduating class who has the highest cumulative grade pint averge
at the end of the first semester of the senior year.
- The salutatorian must be an honor graduate and is the student in a
graduating class who has the second highest cumulative grade point averge
at the end of the first semester of the senior year.
- Honor graduates must have earned at least a 90.0 (not rounded up)
cumulative grade point average at the end of the first semester of the
senior year.
- The valedictorian and salutatorian must have attended the school each
represents for at least four semesters of a regular school year. (The
East Jackson Comprehensive High School valedictorian and salutatorian
for the class of 2008 must have attended either EJCHS or JCCHS for four
semesters of a regular school year.) Additionally, for at least two
of the four semesters in attendance, the valedictorian and salutatorian
must have been in residence, on campus.
- Students who are involved in the ACCEL program (joint enrollment with
a college) are considered fully bonefied students of Jackson County
Schools. Such students may be named valedictorian and salutatorian of
the school they would attended based on residence, with the exception
of the requirement that at least two of the required four semesters
of attendance noted above must be in residence, on campus.
STAR Student
- The STAR Student is named according to the rules of the STAR Student
program. The rules for the STAR Student program are determined by the
Professional Association of Educators. As of summer, 2007, the Star
Student is the senior who has earned the highest SAT score. The Star
Student must also be in the top ten percent of his/her class and the
SAT scores must be at or above the national average at a minimum. There
is no residence requirement under the Star Student rules.
