    Jefferson Fire Department Two $1000 Scholarships Criteria:
  • Graduating from Jackson County Comrprehensive High School in May, 2010
  • Must be pursuing a career in fire sciences or any related academic program, health occupations, criminal justice technology, early childhood care and education, agriculture, poultry science, computer science, engineering or engineering technology.
  • Must be attending an accredited technical trade school in Georgia and pursuing a 2-year or 4-year institution
  • Schlolarship will be based on financial need.
  • Provide letters of recommendation by a high school respresentative and a communty member (no relatives.).
  • Write a 250 word essay about why he/she feels qualified to receive the scholarship.

    Eligibility:
  • The applicant must be a high school senior or not beyond the freshman year in college. He/She must have successfully passed their high school academic requirements. [Ignore the requirement on the application regarding SAT scores.]
  • Each applicant must supply a copy of his/her high school transcripts and a copy of their completed Federal Student Aid Form.[Ignore the requirement for SAT scores.]
  • It will be the applicants responsibility to see that the application is fully completed and that all information submitted is totally truthful.
  • Each application must be accompanied by three letters of recommendaiton: One from the applicant's County Extension Agent or Vocational Education teacher; one from a high school/college techer; and one from a community leader other than a family member.

  • Available to students whose parents or legarl guardians are members of a county Farm Bureau in Georgia as of September 1, 2009.

  • Each recipient of all scholarships must be a customer of Jackson EMC or the son or daughter of a customer and be a resident of the home served by Jackson EMC. .
  • Walter Harrison Scholarships: Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and academic ability.
  • A.T. Sharpton Gainesville College Scholarship: This scholarship award is available exclusively for students planning to attend Gainesville College. Financial need is a primary consideration, and judges also consider academic average, class rank, standardized test scores and/or faculty recommendations.
  • A.T. Sharpton Unrestricted Scholarship: This scholarship award is available to students attending any two- or four-year college or university in the nation. Judges will consider financial need; however, academic average, class rank, standardized test scores and/or faculty recommendations are of equal importance. This scholarship is available for both undergraduate and graduate students.

    U.S. Department of Education $1500 Scholarship - Rewable for up to three additional years to a student in each congressional district. One student from each high school is nominated. (Dependent on federal funding.) Eligibility:
  • Be a legal resident of Georgia
  • Be a citizen of the United States, a national, or a permanent residen who meets the residency requirment listed above, and provides documentation from the Immigration Naturalization Service.
  • Have applied or been accepted for enrollment in a qualified insititution of higher education. This includes postssecondary vocational institutions.
  • Shows promise of continued academic achievement.
  • Nominee is selected by SATor ACT score, GPA, and an Essay.

  • Must have attained an cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Will be enrolling for the first time at a U.S. accredited college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking first year student in the fall of 2009.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities.
  • Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria. (Eligibility for Federal Pell Grant can only be determined through submission of the FAFSA in the beginning of 2009.)
  • Have all three required forms (Nominee Personal Information Form, Nominator Form, and Recommender Form) completed and submitted by the deadline.
