- You must be at least 15 years old.
- You must have a certified copy of your
birth certificate.
- You must have a certificate of attendance
from your high school. At Jackson County Comprehensive High School
you may obtain your certificate by signing up for it in the counseling
office one week before you need it. There
is no exception made to the one week requirement for any reason
whatsoever. If a student does not
request the certificate one week before he/she needs it, the student
will have to reschedule an appointment or make other arrangements
for a later time.
- If students have been suspended for certain reasons, the student
will be prohibited from obtaining a learner's license . If a student
already has a license, it will be revoked if a student is suspended
for these reasons. The reasons are:
- Threatening, striking, or causing bodily harm to a teacher
or other school personnel.
- Possession of sale of drugs or alcohol on school property.
- Possession or use of a weapon on school property.
- Any sexual offense.
- Causing substantial physical or visible bodily harm to or
seriously disfiguring another person, including another student.
- If you are under 18, you must have held
a learner's license for a year and a day before you can obtain
a driver's license.
- After January 1, 2007, if you are under 17, You must have completed
a driver education course approved by the Department of Driver
Services.
- The driver's education course consists of two parts - a
classroom component and a driving component.
- Students have some options as to how to complete the two

- You must make an appointment with
the Georgia State Patrol to take the driving test
which is required to obtain the operator's license. Call to make
the appointment thirty days
before the date that you want to obtain your license. In
our area, in all likelihood your appointment will be at least
one month from the day you call. The phone

the car in which you will be taking the driving test.
- You must have a certificate of attendance

you must go to the counseling office and sign up for it one

passed the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program (ADAP). Usually,
you take this course during your health class at school. You should
have received a card as proof of passing the ADAP course. DO NOT
LOSE THIS CARD! If you do not have the card, check with your school
as to how to obtain proof of passing the ADAP course.
Holders of the Class D Driver's License
must abide by the following laws:
- After obtaining your Class D license,
for the first six months you cannot have any passengers other
than members of your immediate family in your car.
- After six months, until you are 18, you
can have no more than 3 passengers who are not members of your
immediate family in your car.
- You cannot drive between the hours of
12:00 midnight and 6:00 a.m. for any reason.
If for some reason you have not taken the ADAP
course in your health class at school, the course is available elsewhere.
